Tunturi E80 Exercise Bike Review

We have not yet had the opportunity to properly review the Tunturi E80 Exercise Bike , but hope to be able to very soon.

Our view – It blew us away! Before we get onto the electronic wizardry that sets Tunturi’s latest range apart from most of the competition, we’ll talk about the nuts and bolts of the bike first. It’s a quality bike with quality parts combined with a style you don’t normally expect from Tunturi.

The cycling action is so quiet and smooth and their new inertia flywheel system feels like you’re on a real bike. The step-through frame design makes it easy for anyone to get onto the bike, even if recovering from an injury or illness. The saddle is very comfortable and with fully adjustable seat, handles and front column anyone should be able to find a good riding position. The pedals have a great action, so good in fact, you can ride it without trainers – yes we tried!

Okay, let’s get onto the stuff that will make your friend’s jaws drop. The console is one of the best we’ve seen – and easiest to use. The console has a jog wheel below the screen to navigate the menu options and you just press it when you’ve got what you want. You get all the usual workout data but Tunturi seem to display it in a much better format than most.

The big difference between this console and others on the market is the use of a 7″ full colour screen – note this is not a TV. You can load up a bike ride from all sorts of locations from around the world! They’ve put a camcorder on a cyclist’s helmet and sent him all over the place to record these scenic routes. As you cycle you move along the road, the faster you cycle the quicker the hedgerows fly past; you get to a hill and the resistance on the pedals increase. This really is a great innovation as it adds a completely new dimension to your training – it’s very addictive as you want to try new routes.

The console itself has so many scaleable programmes – same programme with different levels of difficulty – that you could use it for years and not get through them all. Tunturi’s T-WareTM training software let’s you connect up to your PC and track your progress and download programmes – you get a 512 Mb USB memory stick included for data transfer included in the price.

There are also the heart rate programmes for fast fat-burning and fitness improvement plus it has a polar chip to use with a chest strap (not included – shame) which is a better option than the less accurate hand grips.

If that’s not enough technical stuff there’s a port for your MP3/iPod with built-in speakers. The only thing it didn’t have was a bottle holder – which seems a bit odd considering they’ve thought of everything else. The warranty is superb, 20 years on the frame and 3 years parts and labour on everything else – this is extended to 4 years if you register with Tunturi.

If you love innovation and technology this will blow your socks off. If you want to get fit and have a target to achieve this is the bike to do it on!
